Songs Written by Amanda THE FUTURE 3-13-04 A pat on the back or a slap in the face. It really makes no difference who wins this race. First, last, whatever the case, we all end in the same place. If you hit us enough times, eventually we’ll get numb. If you treat us like criminals, that’s what we’ll become. We’re products of our environment, so what are we supposed to do? If you can’t show any respect to us, how can we show any to you? Watch out…we’re the future. Scare us into caring. Scare us into believing. We can‘t trust you if you’re always deceiving. You ignore us, then cry when we’re leaving. Don’t you wish you’d thought twice before conceiving? If you hit us enough times, eventually we’ll get numb. If you treat us like criminals, that’s what we’ll become. We’re products of our environment, so what are we supposed to do? If you can’t show any respect to us, how can we show any to you? Watch out…we’re the future. Our sentences end when we’re 18, but for some it’s much too late. They’ve already conformed to your vision of their fate. You underestimate us. You think that we can’t care. We like to learn, it’s your subjects we can’t bear! We aren’t all after the same ends, why must we have the same means? We won’t waste the best years of our lives being your machines! It’s not that we’re stupid, we just don’t know what to do. If you hate your life so much, why do you want us to be like you? If you hit us enough times, eventually we’ll get numb. If you treat us like criminals, that’s what we’ll become. We’re products of our environment, so what are we supposed to do? If you can’t show any respect to us, how can we show any to you? Watch out…we’re the future. We’re the future and the future looks pretty grim… A LOVE SONG 2-16-04Over the years I’ve seen many great people demean themselves with a life of addiction. Not to drugs or alcohol, but to the most natural drug of all: this dangerous sentiment called love. This is not an anti-love song, but more like an admonition to keep yourself from falling into that cesspool of addiction. Love is like a drug: it’s dangerous and compulsive, but it can be great if you don’t let it control the way that you live. Don’t let it break friendships; don’t let your aspirations slip away ‘cause opportunities may disappear. If use this drug responsibly and retain your autonomy, then you’ll be prepared if the sensation starts to fade. This is not an anti-love song, but more like an admonition to keep yourself from falling into that cesspool of addiction. Love is like a drug: it’s dangerous and compulsive, but it can be great if you don’t let it control the way that you live. Just understand love for what it really is and don’t become dependent on the pleasure it can give. It’s not some magic feeling that’s impossible to live without, it doesn’t always last forever, but that’s nothing to be sad about. There’s not only one person you can fall in love with and it can be anyone regardless of race, gender, religion, age or physical condition. It’s unpredictable… This is not an anti-love song, but more like an admonition to keep yourself from falling into that cesspool of addiction. Love is like a drug: it’s dangerous and compulsive, but it can be great if you don’t let it control the way that you live. RIGHT TO AUTHORITY 2-15-03Verse: I always try to, but I can't seem to reason with you. I'm so tired of the shit you try to pull, you say that I'm too cynical, but maybe I just know the truth! You just state your opinions over and over again, never even say why you choose to believe in them, maybe I'd believe you if you'd show me some proof. I try to perceive why you accept society without thinking for yourself. (You say) "That's the way it is", but it's not the way it has to be! Fuck society! I can think for myself! Chorus: WHO GAVE YOU the right to authority?! (You think) YOU'RE SMARTER 'cause you're older than me?! "LIFE EXPERIENCE" doesn't count for shit WHEN YOU'RE TOO BUSY to experience it! Verse: Open up you're eyes and open up your mind and accept the possibility that I could be right! I've listened to your opinion and given you mine. I backed mine up, but you didn't even try! You just go along with the majority, accept all the preset beliefs of society. Racism, sexism, no freedoms and slavery. These were all accepted before somebody stood up and disagreed. If everyone were like you I'd hate to think where this world would be. (Chorus) Verse: I'm sick and tired of all your apathy. "Because I said so." isn't good enough for me! Where do you get all of your rules? Why do you allow yourself to be society's tool? So easily used and constantly abused. What makes you believe you're so much better than me? If you're not even happy with your life, what makes you think that this system is so right? You work, marry, have children and die. You can't think for yourself because you don't have the time. You say I should be thankful for all the freedoms I'm given, but what good is free speech when no one will listen? (Chorus) Bridge: I'm not gonna keep everything suppressed, I will not allow myself to be oppressed. Aren't I supposed to be free? Well I guess your rights don't count until you're 18. Why do you judge me by my age? How long I've been alive doesn't mean anything! Compare all the kids and you'll see that age doesn't determine mental maturity. (Chorus) COWARD 8-9/13/02 Verse: Thousands of lives were lost over the years. But at what cost? We were taught to adhere to our government's every desire and their every whim. We were taught not to think for ourselves, to just obey him (the president). But now times are changing, I'm glad to say. We are learning that violence isn't the only way. To solve our problems, fighting isn't a good solution. Our politicians have to stop evading evolution! Chorus: Just 'cause I don't wanna die doesn't mean that I'm a coward. I'm not gonna give my life (3x) to them! Verse: The draft is unjust and unfair, I don't see why we must give our lives to spare theirs. Why doesn't the president fight in his own war? Certainly Dubya's life isn't worth any more! Why must innocent blood be spilled? Why should our choices be only die or kill? It seems that our rights are just an illusion. Whatever happened to the amendments of the Constitution? (Chorus) Bridge: It seems that we are just pons in their little game, easily given up if the prospect is personal gain. Why in a time of war should we lose our most basic rights? It's about time we stood up and said "Fight your own fights!" (Chorus) REFUSE! 3/19-21/03 Verse: We're the U.S., we're the world's policemen and just like cops here we're corrupted. As we go to war, some of us know there's a better way. We strive for, strive for a better day. But now it seems that peace is only a dream that has yet to come true, so there's only one thing left to do! Chorus: Refuse to fight! Refuse to die! Refuse to kill! Save Iraqi lives! Fuck Saddam and fuck this president! Fuck this war and fuck this government! Verse: If Iraq must disarm, then so should we. It's the only way to achieve peace. Whether it's for oil or for something else, if he's truly loyal Bush can go fight the war himself! Many soldiers will be dismembered just so that can be remembered for this war, this travesty. You can't get peace through fighting! (Chorus) Verse: Every day the media spews their rhetoric, don't let yourself be brainwashed by it. They make Iraqi citizens out to be evil, but we're just like them, they're just regular people. Their "facts" and numbers don't add up, their business is fucking corrupt. It's time we raised our fists, time we raised our voices before we run out of choices! (Chorus) Bridge: I'm not killing, I'm not dying. I want peace without fighting. (4x) (Chorus) HEARTLESS MURDERERS They kill for pleasure, don't care if you get any Heartless murderers put you through agony I wish I could put them in jail for eternity I wish I could exercise the death penalty But there is a flaw in this plan you see All of their murderous acts are done legally Because they were elected democratically Yes, they're the assholes in Washington D.C.! GOD BLESS AMERICA . . . AND SCREW EVERYBODY ELSE 3/31-4/4/03 Verse: I watch that flag flying high in our beautiful American sky. It stands for the freedoms we've been given from birth. The American people - the greatest people on Earth. It makes me want to go fight and bleed, to defend the greatest nation that's ever been seen. I believe that others should suffer through pain if they don't allow us to kill for dividend gain. Verse: I never understood what's so great about the U.S.A. We have some freedoms, but we're still forced to pay. Our taxes fund things which we don't support and don't even get me started on our unjust courts. They say "It's a two party system", but they're one and the same. Call them "Republicrats" 'cause that's their real name. Third parties don't even get a voice, it's not a democracy 'cause we don't have a choice. Chorus: Nationalism - it just separates Nationalism - it just provokes hate Nationalism - you're so caught up in yourself. You say "God bless America", but what about everybody else? Verse: This country's got a horrible police state. We only unite when we share a common hate. It's a hatred for some terrorist or dictatorship. Why can't you see that the media's full of shit? Ever since that day back in September, everyone's a war monger, but just remember: before you start making an enemy list, don't forget that your president's also a terrorist. (Chorus) Verse: They've told you all your life that you've been blessed 'cause you don't have to deal with the "third-world mess". So you just sit back and feel lucky all your life, you don't even think about helping other's with their strife. They could use your help in countries afar, but people also need help in your own backyard. So don't spend your time feeling blessed, if you're so nationalistic, then help out your own houseless! (Chorus) |
